About the founder

Itzel Berrio Hayward
Since starting her legal career in 1997, Itzel Berrio Hayward has been passionate about social justice. She has spent the majority of her career representing the interests of Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color; non-English speaking communities; and other marginalized communities.
In 2010, she began exploring alternatives to the legal system for resolving conflict and was drawn to transformative justice, nonviolent communication, and mindfulness. She also began facilitating conversations between individuals and groups, as well as coaching and training folks on communication skills.
She approaches each engagement through a trauma-informed, racial-equity lens and with the understanding that all human beings have the capacity for empathy.
